I've been thinking of an AR10 project for over 10 years.  For the ones that don't know a AR10 is a Ar15 that shoots a .308 round.  While it looks the similar the internals, upper receiver and barrel is different.  There is no "Mil-spec" for it.

I can get a complete Lower DPMS AR10 for around $250-$280,  Anderson and most cheaper models claim that "their" parts "may" not work with other brands of parts.  This usually results in buying a Jig and drilling to make replacement parts work.

On the other hand higher end makers like Rock River, Bushmaster, Colt, ect. don't make this claim, as they seem to created a "Mil-spec" of their own.  All their parts interchange with little reworking.

I've been eyeing this Rock River complete Lower assembly for a few weeks.  I also dont have to pay shipping to an FFL since this guy is local. What you guys think?   http://www.gunbroker.com/Item/619270052

The 30-06 AR in a box sounds very interesting "coming soon".  I wanted to do a 30-06 AR build but I worry about chamber pressure as that is an absolute war round.  The 30-06 was replaced by the .308 "7.62x51 NATO" by our Military so the 500 round ammo packs differ by about $70, which is a huge cost when you like to shoot.  I checked out SMF Tactical's .308 section and it doesn't look like they are making those upper receivers just yet but their website shows a section for it so it looks like they are going to do it. I'll have to call them. Thanks for the info!

I ended up buying a 100% complete Rock River AR10 Lower Assembly "about $350" a couple months ago.  Now I just need a complete upper for it...  I'm thinking of getting A complete RockRiver upper but they are expensive.  A complete RockRiver upper is about $900 so I am gonna wait until my 408 build is done before buying that.

But for anyone interested in an AR10 this is the way to do it.  Buy the upper and lower separately, a complete AR10 RockRiver is $1700-$1900 retail.  But the combined cost of my build is about $1250.
