Dealer quoted me $900 to do front and rear brakes on the Outback we own at work.   Rockauto is shipping Raybestos rotors AND pads for $161 to my door.  Awesome.

yup, I have a (ugh) F150 in my garage right now for what is turning out to be a major overhaul. It came to me to pull the trans and send it out for a rebuild (nobody trustworthy around here any more, had to take the trans to Indiana to have a bench rebuild on it-- more on this later)
While it is here I found a seized alternator, broken LF spring (what dumbass decided to put STRUTS on the front of a truck?)  one busted window regulator, (the 2nd one broke in my driveway when we wheeled it off of the trailer) and a couple of other things...

here's where I got the parts besides the trans...

alternator-- CL, new reman, from a former auto electric shop gone out of business yes, $35. cash, no core. NAPA $203.

From rock Auto...
quick struts, I went with Gabriel. $97/ea COMPLETE with spring, mount and strut all assembled. Useless Zone wants $103 each FOR JUST THE STRUT.
Monroe (their better grade) would have been same price, NAPA wants $183 ea FOR The EXACT SAME THING.  There were cheaper brands too available from Rock,  but I dont trust them.
Window Regulators.. Rock Auto (VDO which I believe was the true OEM of these for Ford) $64/ea... Napa was around $90/ea.
serp belt/ Gates Fleet Line (the good HD green one) $23    Napa standard Gates, $51 no "HD Fleet" shown for this application.
Tensioner Motorcraft $31, local parts store 50-85 depending on brand chosen
MOOG upper control arms (the "better" grade of MOOG) $67/ ea,  locally the "cheap" moog was close the "better line" is $92 each
Idler pulleys (2) $16/ea, the 3rd at $22... local was more than double. and a few other misc items

In all I spent $670 with my "user code" 5% off and shipping from 3 places in all, (damn the idiots now collect tax, they didn't have to when I used them before) withRock Auto
If I had bought all (same brand) parts locally, I would have spent ~$1100.  I bought all name brand familiar stuff, not the cheaper unheard-of brands.... not my truck and I didnt make the parts but I will be the one to hear about it if any of them die an early death.... piece of mind sticking with name brand stuff is worth it.

Its a new law that was taken to the supreme court.  They ruled online purchase shall be taxed nationwide.

2007 Chrysler 300 2.7L "Wifes car" No complaints other than it slow. Seems like the more I beat on it the faster it goes.

I was wondering yesterday if there will be taxation through eBay at some point.
