Hello, new to the site. Hemifever told me about this place, and I must say its very informative!

Anyway, I've decided to take on the project of swapping out my 4.7L and swapping in a 5.7 engine. The first plan was to replace the engine harness back to the firewall and use the Hemi PCM. I quickly found that there was nothing universal between the Dakota and Ram harnesses and I'd basically have to replace the entire wiring out of the Dakota with the wiring out of a Ram or Jeep.

So I came up with a new (current) plan. I'm going to splice the hemi engine harness into my 4.7 engine harness so the entire truck is still controlled by the 4.7 PCM. I then contacted Hemifever and asked if we could put the 5.7 fuel/spark maps into my 4.7 pcm via the SCT tuner. We think it should work, the firing order is the same, the toothed crank is the same, and I even installed a 5.7 pcm into my 4.7 Dakota just to see if it'd run. It did, just alittle rich.  Laughing So I'm thinking the software is very similiar.

Now using the 4.7 pcm I don't have to worry about installing the ETC pedal, since I will be using a cable setup. There is an expensive cable operated throttle body available for the hemi engines from Mopar Performance. This seems to be the only option out there.

So anyway there is my current status on my project. I'm glad I finally found a technical site for the 4.7 and Hemi engines.

Good Luck and keep us all informed.

I had contemplated the same idea. But I don't care for the 4-door look of the Dakotas and there are No regular Cabs???

I didn't care for the 4 door so much either because it brought the bed size way down. Instead I opted for the club cab which basically looks like a two door extended cab, but the rear doors open from the inside. There's two small seats in the extended cab portion.

Well thanks again for helping me out with the tuning. Without your custom tuning available I would have ended the project.

Well it sure sounds like it can be made to work.  Since the hemi pcm ran your truck "more or less" then the mechanical pieces should be in order.

even at the Mopar price of $574 that's not a bad price.

I'm paying more than that for a Ford one to fit my Intake set-up on the DakFink.

Dusty, if you don't mind me asking, about what's it going to cost to do the swap?
